Magma Reservoir Discovered Under Tuscany

Mastodon Florence 20d13d Impact 8

Researchers have identified a massive magma reservoir covering approximately 6,000 cubic kilometers beneath the Tuscany region. The discovery was made using environmental noise tomography, which utilized 60 sensors to generate 3D images of the subsurface. This finding provides significant new insights into the volcanic structures of the area. Scientists have discovered a large magma reservoir located beneath Tuscany. These types of super reservoirs are typically associated with supervolcanoes, such as Yellowstone in the United States. The discovery was discussed on France Culture. These interconnected reservoirs have a combined volume similar to the Yellowstone caldera. The study indicates there is no risk of eruption for at least 10,000 years. Aside from geothermal activity, no surface indicators of these reservoirs were previously known.

Aside from geothermal activity, no surface indicators of these reservoirs were previously known. The discovery was made by analyzing the propagation speed of sound through geological layers. This system is described as unique in the world. The findings provide new information regarding the nature of the underlying geological layers.
