Argus Butterfly Population Declines 98 Percent
The sparrow population in the Greater London area has declined by an 98 percent. While the species remains common in Switzerland, declines are being observed in other countries. In some regions, such as Paris, the birds have almost disappeared. Scientists are currently investigating the cause of these declines. The loss of the species is described as removing a thread from the natural life web. Similar declines have been noted in Paris and various cities in Germany. Changes in the landscape, including land reclamation, have significantly altered the environment. Experts noted that butterflies react quickly to environmental changes due to their short lifespans. Drying conditions are also impacting plant life and insect populations. The short lifespan of butterflies allows for quick observable reactions to these environmental shifts.
