Magnitude 4.9 Earthquake Hits Near Chios
A magnitude 4.7 earthquake occurred 8 kilometers west of Chios. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km, located 10 km east-northeast of Argalasti, Greece. Two earthquakes occurred near the Greek island of Chios within approximately one hour. The first tremor measured between 4.8 and 4.9 on the Richter scale, while a second earthquake measured 4.7. Chios Mayor Theodoros Zumas stated that no damage or injuries have been reported following the seismic activity. The tremors were felt in the surrounding region. Tremors were also felt in Magnesia. A subsequent tremor reached a magnitude of 4.9, according to the source. The source noted these were the largest tremors recorded in the area recently. Tremors reached magnitudes of 4.7 and 4.9, with vibrations felt in Thessaly and Attica. This follows an earlier magnitude 4.7 earthquake recorded shortly after 2:00 PM.
