Swiss researchers have found that proteins may play an role in how centenarians fend off metabolic dysfunction and oxidative stress. Proteins are molecules in the body that build tissues and make hormones and enzymes that regulate metabolism. The research aimed to understand how centenarians resist these health issues. They noted that the quality of social connections, rather than the quantity, was most. New research suggests that key aging mechanisms are significantly slowed down in centenarians. While genetics account for 25% of their longevity, factors such as diet, weight, and physical activity also play a role.
