Deep Sea Expedition Documents Giant Marine Species

Researchers conducting in situ observations in the Mediterranean have confirmed the presence of giant marine species. Samples show sponges reaching 2 meters in size and starfish with 45 arms. Post-doctoral researcher Juliette Jackmont from the University of California is studying fish in the mesophotic zone between 60 and 200 meters. The expedition aims to provide direct observations of these species in their natural habitat.
