Scientific forecasts indicate a gradual decline in annual average radiation levels in areas affected by the Chernobyl accident. The number of settlements with radioactive contamination from the Chernobyl accident has decreased over the last 40 years. Currently, contamination is primarily distributed across 14 Russian federal subjects, including Belgorod, Bryansk, and Voronezh. In 13 of these regions, there are no longer any settlements with average radiation levels exceeding the norm.
