Mogao Caves Mural Restoration Continues

Restorer Li Yunhe, aged 83, has developed a technique to relocate large-scale murals for preservation. This process involves relocating damaged sections to sister caves, such as the Yulin Caves, to facilitate remote restoration. The technique aims to preserve murals from different dynasties that are often covered by newer works. The relocation aims to achieve complete restoration of the damaged site. Master craftsman Dun Huang is working to repair and restore murals and statues within the Mogao Caves. Over seventy years, Li Yunhe has restored over 4,000 square meters of murals at the Mogao Caves.
