Brain Structure Changes During Driving Study
Researchers have identified changes in connectivity between brain regions associated with cognitive decline. While results were positive, researchers said the need for further studies to understand the impact of parenthood on the brain. The current study sample included only adults from the United Kingdom, which may limit the ability to generalize findings to different family cultures. A scientific study by University College London found that the posterior hippocampus increases in physical volume during the study of driving. The research indicates that the area of the brain dedicated to spatial memory expands as individuals learn to drive. This process results in physical modifications to the brain structure.
