Man Regains Consciousness After Cardiac Arrest In Rennes

A 62-year-old man was declared dead by doctors at a university hospital in Rennes on Thursday, April 23. The man, who suffers from cancer and lives with a single kidney, was at the hospital for dialysis. He was reportedly alive again three hours after being declared dead, an occurrence described as Lazarus syndrome. The medical phenomenon, referred to as Lazarus syndrome, involves patients appearing to breathe again after a diagnosis of death. The source noted that such cases are extremely rare. The event occurred at a university hospital (CHU). Medical staff attempted to maintain a mini ICU environment for approximately four to five hours following a medical emergency on a diverted plane. Crew used a finger oxygen probe and a blood pressure device to monitor the individual during the diversion to medical facilities. An AI model identified risk factors for pulmonary embolism when blood-thinning medication was not working. Doctors detected renewed pulse activity following the initial arrest, a rare phenomenon known as Lazarus syndrome. There have been 76 recorded cases of Lazarus syndrome worldwide in the last 40 years.
