Microplastic Concentration Found Low In Water Samples

Researchers at Moscow State University's Faculty of Physics determined the amount of microplastics in drinking water containing a single grain of sand in a large pool. The number of particles does not depend on the container material. Microplastic levels were slightly higher in glass and tetra pak bottles than in plastic packaging. Scientists explained that the primary source of microparticles is the water production process rather than the packaging itself. The study analyzed bottled water in plastic and glass containers, Tetra Pak packaging, and tap water. Scientists identified particles by staining them with fluorescent dye and counting them via microscope. Microplastic concentrations in drinking water do not exceed one nanogram per liter.
