US Justice Department Moves To Roll Back Gun Regulations
The Justice Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives released a list of 34 regulations intended to alter existing rules for firearm owners and the industry. Gun safety groups have expressed concerns that the regulatory changes are dangerous. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and ATF Director Robert Cicada announced 34 regulations to alter rules for firearm owners and dealers. One change includes creating a liaison role to work directly with the gun industry. The stated goal is to streamline regulations and reduce paperwork for dealers and owners. The Gun Violence Prevention Group March for Our Lives criticized the move, calling it a coordinated giveaway to the gun lobby. The DOJ stated that these changes are the beginning of more expected regulatory shifts. Most of the described regulatory changes remain proposals and are not yet finalized.
