South African Police Chief Investigated
Impeachment proceedings against the president are set to be revived, following a recent court ruling. The president of South Africa faced calls for impeachment over the theft of a large sum of money from his rural home, the Palapala farm. Around half a million dollars was reportedly missing from the farm in 2020. South Africa's African National Congress (ANC) is continuing to make gains as votes are counted in local elections. A leader from the party is facing an impeachment committee hearing, having repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and not been accused of any crimes. The ANC has been the dominant force in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994. The court ruled that the theft of over $500,000 from the president's rural home in 2020 should be investigated.
