Philadelphia Council Considers Unlimited Student Transit Passes
Philadelphia City Council member Ru Landau is calling for hearings to remove usage limits on student fare cards. Currently, student transit passes in Philadelphia only function between 5:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on school days. Advocacy group Transit Forward Philadelphia representative Stephen Brunskill noted that student cards in New York and Washington D.C. offer broader utility. Landau stated the city needs to secure funding to implement these expanded limits. Superintendent Tony Wotlington stated that making student passes unlimited would cost the school district an additional $136 million. The proposal follows models used in New York and Washington, DC.
