New Homeless Shelter Opens In Chicago
Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias opened a 5,000 square foot business services space inside the state-owned Belandic building in Chicago. Downtown alderman Brendan Riley stated the location's proximity to City Hall is ideal for business owners. The facility aims to assist local entrepreneurs with starting or expanding businesses. Giannoulias expressed a commitment to making it easier for people to conduct business within the city. City officials opened The Haven on Lincoln on Thursday to provide housing for single adults experiencing homelessness. The facility is located near Lincoln and Berwyn on Chicago's far north side. It was formerly a two-story motel known as the Diplomat. The shelter contains 37 sleeping rooms with units designed for single occupancy to promote privacy and stability.
