Louisiana Governor Suspends U.S. House Primaries
U.S. Similar efforts to redraw maps are being pursued by Republican-led states including Alabama and Tennessee. Louisiana Congressman Cleo Fields called the move outrageous, noting that voting was already underway. Fields stated that the state needs a voting rights act that is clear and unambiguous following a recent Supreme Court decision limiting the 1965 Voting Rights Act. officials reported no foul play in a separate incident where two individuals on a hike are believed to have fallen from a cliff into the ocean. A new ABC News, Washington Post, and Ipsos poll shows disapproval ratings for the president have reached a record high of 62%. The map had been drawn in 2024 to create a second majority-Black district from six existing districts. Black residents comprise approximately one-third of Louisiana's population.
