Florida Senators Debate Vaccine Exemption Bill
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has called lawmakers back for a special session starting today. Aubrey Jewett, a political science professor at the University of Central Florida, stated Governor DeSantis has lost focus on solving public health problems by providing options to ignore immunizations. Political science professor Aubrey Jewett noted that Governor DeSantis faces political challenges as he approaches the end of his term during an election cycle. National polls indicate approximately 80 percent of people, spanning various political parties, support vaccine mandates for school children. Health policy professor Kelly Weitner from Georgetown University noted that some Republicans in various state legislatures are actively pushing against such mandates. The president's party in Florida has recorded over 140 cases this year.
