Colombian Presidential Race Heads To Runoff
A hard-right candidate with Trump's alignment is the current favorite to win Colombia's upcoming presidential election, according to betting markets. Candidate Ivan Duque secured a percentage of the vote, while Gustavo Petro also advanced to the runoff. Colombia's presidential election will proceed to a second round of voting on June 21st. The first round saw a high voter turnout, with over 19 million votes cast. The exact date for the runoff has not yet been announced. Voters will now choose between the top two contenders in a second round. Gustavo Petro obtained 43.7% of the vote, and will face Rodolfo Hernández, who secured 40.9%. Neither candidate secured a majority in the initial vote. Ultra Chiste and Ivan Cep will face each other in the runoff election after a close first round. Candidates De la Espriella and Cepeda will compete for the presidency.
