Iran Executed At Least 21 People
The UN says Iranian authorities have executed at least 21 people since a conflict began in February. At least nine of those killed were linked to mass protests in January. Ten individuals were executed for alleged membership in opposition groups, while two were put to death on spying charges. UN High Commissioner Volker Turk called on Tehran to stop executions and expressed alarm over the restriction of rights. A report stated that current actions in Iran severely restrict people's rights and called on Tehran to stop executions. More than 4,000 people have been detained or affected since that date due to national security accusations. The report noted that demonstrations in support of authorities occurred yesterday.
