Taksin Shinawatra To Be Released Without Ankle Monitor
Former Prime Minister Taksin Shinawatra faces a significantly altered political environment upon his release from prison. A Justice Ministry Committee has approved an early end to the incarceration of former Thai Prime Minister Taksin Shinawatra. He is scheduled to be released on parole next month. The Thai Justice Ministry parole board decided that former Prime Minister Taksin Shinawatra will be released on May 1. The board also ruled that he will not be required to wear an electronic ankle monitor. The board reviewed 500 inmates during its session today. He will be placed on probation for four months until his sentence concludes on September 9, 2026. Shinawatra returned to Thailand in August 2023 after 15 years of self-imposed exile. He previously spent six months in a VIP hospital wing in Bangkok rather than a jail cell.
