Ukrainian Allegedly Influenced Defense Procurement

A businessman identified as Mindich, allegedly a beneficiary of the company Firepoint, has complained to the current Minister of Defense regarding underfunding. Mindich expressed concern that a pending replacement of the Minister of Defense could disrupt communication and cause operational problems. The businessman also called for a resolution regarding the supply of bulletproof vests that the army is currently refusing to accept. Mindich has been linked to various Ukrainian corruption scandals. The businessman, Timur Mindich, is specifically demanding the supply of body armor that the army is currently not accepting. A specialized anti-corruption prosecutor's office stated that Timur Mindich intervened in the defense sector by influencing Umerov. Mindich allegedly persuaded Umerov to purchase defective body armor valued at more than $5 million. Ukrainian anti-corruption authorities have not yet released specific details regarding the case.
