Germany To Extend Heating Law Deadlines
The German cabinet has decided to extend the deadline for the Building Energy Act. Previously, cities with over 100,000 inhabitants were required to ensure new heating systems used at least 65 percent renewable energy, including in existing buildings. This requirement deadline is now extended until October. The federal government intends to complete the revision of heating regulations by that time. The move aims to prevent stricter regulations for new heating systems in large cities from taking effect in July. These regulations originated from the previous coalition government. Under plans from the Union and SPD, oil and gas heating systems may continue to be installed in residential buildings.
