Lisbon Motion To Keep Interpretive Center In Capital Rejected

The Lisbon City Council approved a document to establish an interpretive center dedicated to the April 25 revolution. The council's decision follows a motion by the PS regarding intentions by Minister of the Presidency Leitão Amaro to reconfigure or abandon the project in the capital. He noted that several locations are being made available to the session president. However, Moedas did not rule out the possibility of the center being located in another municipality within the Lisbon metropolitan area. The project remains a subject of controversy. Political discussions are underway regarding the installation of the April 25th Interpretive Center in Lisbon. A protocol established in January 2024 for the center's installation appears to be at risk of not being implemented. Local political motions are calling for explanations from the City Council to ensure the center remains in Lisbon. Local representatives propose discussing various possible sites with the Director of Heritage to find suitable locations. The goal is to present options to Cornel Vas de Lourenço for a final decision. The motion was defeated by a majority vote from the PSD, CDS-PP, and Iniciativa Liberal parties. Proponents of the motion argued that relocating the center to another municipality within the Lisbon metropolitan area would be offensive.
