France Debates Child Adoption Secrecy Laws
France is considering implementing stricter checks on individuals working with children to prevent sexual violence and abuse. The proposal aims to better protect children who have experienced violence, with a focus on background checks for those in early childhood and child protection roles. Over 4,800 individuals in these sectors have already undergone such checks. A new decree published in the official journal makes complete physical and mental health diagnostics mandatory for children under social assistance. The Aide Sociale à l'Enfance (ASE) currently manages 385,000 children and adolescents. The regulation aims to improve health monitoring within the social aid system. Data from the Independent Commission on Incest and Sexual Violence Against Children indicates 160,000 minors are victims of sexual violence annually in France.
