Iranian Parliament Alleges Foreign Plot To Destabilize Nation
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that the United States is pursuing plans to weaken and topple Iran through maritime blockades, economic pressure, and internal manipulation. Nine executions were carried out in relation to mass protests in January, 10 for alleged membership in opposition groups, and two on spying charges. UN human rights chief Volker Turk stated that the rights of Iranian people are being stripped away in harsh and brutal ways. The UN reported that most prisoners were victims of forced disappearances, torture, televised confessions, and mock executions. Rights groups claim Iran executes more people annually than any country except China. Galaybaf also addressed a new plan described as targeting the submission of the Iranian nation. The remarks were made during a broadcast on Skai 100.3.
