Russia To Scale Back Moscow Military Parade
Presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov explained the absence of military hardware in the May 9 parade during a briefing. This decision marks a change from previous parades that used modern tanks and missiles to demonstrate power. Previous parades on Red Square featured intercontinental missiles and modern tanks to demonstrate national power. The decision follows recent attacks on Russian facilities. Kremlin spokesperson Piers Koff stated that the event will instead feature a march of thousands of officer candidates on Red Square. Russia will celebrate the victory over Nazi Germany on Red Square on May 9 without the use of military equipment. The last time a parade was held without weapons was in 2007. The annual military parade in Moscow commemorating the victory in World War II will be scaled back this year.
