US Increases Military Presence In Europe
Europe continues to rely heavily on the United States in critical sectors, including technology and intelligence systems. The quality and quantity of European satellite systems are significantly lower than those of the United States. Zhang noted that the implementation of the European NATO plan could lead to a downgrade in transatlantic relations. He added that without European assistance, US deterrence and combat capabilities would be weakened. The rise of the world's fourth-largest military power is also a potential consequence of these shifts. The US Congress reports that the United States maintains 31 military bases in Europe, with access to an additional 19 military sites. Approximately 70,000 soldiers are currently deployed across the continent. This deployment includes 35,000 troops in Germany, 12,000 in Italy, and 10,000 in the United Kingdom.
