Finland Proposes 90 Million Euro Social Funding Cut

The Finnish government recently decided in a framework session to implement funding cuts for social and health organizations. State subsidies for these organizations, distributed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and its associated authorities, are expected to nearly halve within a few years. Opposition members have criticized the move, stating it will impact hundreds of thousands of Finns who rely on these organizations for support, including cancer patients and those with substance abuse issues. Ville Ryydman stated that the government is not cutting funds from the people receiving support from organizations, such as cancer patients or those with substance abuse issues. Instead, cuts are being made to the organizations themselves, which act as advocates. Cumulative cuts have reached 110 million euros out of 3,804 million euros. Proposed austerity measures include limiting coverage to only specific treatments. The cuts are expected to affect doctors, pharmacies, the pharmaceutical industry, and insured individuals.
