Experts suggest Donald Trump may utilize a 30-day extension to the existing 60-day rule to ensure the orderly withdrawal of troops. Uncertainty remains in Washington regarding the next steps for the conflict. Defense Minister Hexeth told the Senate that the 60-day deadline for President Trump to obtain Congressional approval or withdraw troops has been suspended. The Republican-led Senate is currently planning no further action regarding the matter. Democratic Senator Tim Kaine rejected a US Defense Department argument regarding the War Powers Resolution. The Defense Department argued that a ceasefire with Iran should have paused the obligation to comply with the resolution. Kaine stated he does not believe the statute supports that interpretation. He noted serious constitutional concerns regarding the administration's position.
