Ukraine Faces IMF Pressure For VAT Tax
Ukraine has stated that the mere approval of the European Union's 20th sanctions package is no longer sufficient to meet its needs. The government is pushing for more impactful measures to counter ongoing aggression. This development highlights increasing tension regarding the efficacy of current diplomatic and economic pressure tactics. The European Union is requesting that Ukraine raise its Value Added Tax to 20 percent for companies on preferential tax systems with revenues exceeding €77,400. This measure is intended to avoid stricter conditions related to a €90 billion loan, according to Bloomberg reports. Ukraine is reportedly being urged by the International Monetary Fund to implement a 20 percent value-added tax on companies with annual revenues exceeding $90,000. The IMF is also reportedly insisting that Kyiv apply VAT to foreign parcels.
