Disability Association Sues French State Over Accessibility
The association APF France Handicap has raised questions regarding the enforcement of accessibility laws in the Centre-Val de Loire region. The group noted that while the law provides for financial sanctions, six regional prefectures have reportedly claimed they lack the resources to carry out inspections. Nicolas Mérid of APF France Handicap described the responses from the prefectures as astounding. The association APF France-Handicap has filed a lawsuit against the French state regarding inaction on accessibility standards. The group has petitioned the administrative court against six prefectures in the Centre-Val de Loire region to obtain precise figures on accessibility. According to the association, fewer than half of the 2 million establishments open to the public in France comply with disability accessibility norms.
