Australia To Set National Environmental Standards For Projects
The Australian federal government is set to unveil significant reforms to the $50 billion National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) today. Minister Mark Butler is expected to address concerns regarding the scheme's rapid growth and the rising costs associated with mild to moderate disability support. The reforms may include new registration requirements for service providers by July 1st and a tiered pricing approach based on service quality. The Australian government has established a national commissioner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. These standards are intended to speed up the approval process for such projects. The exact benchmarks for these environmental assessments have not yet been established.
