Former Seoul Admits Bribery Charges
The Seoul Central District Court held the first trial today at 10:30 AM for independent lawmaker Kang Sun-woo and former Seoul City Council member Kim Kyung. The defendants face charges of violating the Political Funds Act, including allegations of exchanging 100 million won under the guise of nominations. Kang is also accused of instructing the deletion of security detail phone records and drafting proclamations after the fact. A second trial hearing is proceeding for an aide named Nam regarding allegations of political fund law violations involving former city councilor Kim. The charges allege that in January 2022, ahead of local elections, Kim received a shopping bag containing 100 million won in exchange for a nomination at a hotel in Yongsan District, Seoul. The proceedings are currently underway. According to South Korean media reports, the trial is scheduled to resume next month.
