Colombia Transitions Passport Production Contract

Colombia has begun issuing new personalized passports, with citizens already traveling using the updated documents. Chancellor Rosa Villavicencio addressed the Senate's Second Commission during a political control debate regarding the implementation of a new passport issuance model. Villavicencio stated that there have been no interruptions in the issuance of these documents. The debate follows ongoing questioning in the Senate regarding the new system. Senator Nicolás Echeberri expressed concern over perceived improvisation during the debate. The government maintains existing agreements with the Portuguese Mint for the process. Foreign Minister Rosa Villavicencio testified before the second commission of the Senate regarding the system. While the Minister assured lawmakers that there have been no interruptions in document issuance, senators expressed dissatisfaction with the current implementation. The Imprenta Nacional began a transition process on April 1 for a new passport contract involving the Casa de la Moneda de Portugal. The Portuguese public company is now responsible for the personalization procedure using machinery sent to the Imprenta Nacional. Thomas Gregg Anson will continue to manage the transition of the new contract following a meeting with the Unión Temporal. The process involves coordination between the Cancillería, the Imprenta Nacional, and the Casa de la Moneda de Portugal.
