EU Proposes Defense and Space Initiatives To Deter Russia
The European Union has introduced a proposal to deny entry to former Russian combatants. This move comes 12 years after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The initiative aims to restrict the movement of individuals involved in the conflict into EU territory. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented initiatives aimed at deterring Russia, which the Commission identifies as the primary threat to European security. The projects include a 2030 reporting milestone following intelligence warnings that Russia could increase military capabilities to attack EU countries by that year. The documents also identify the Russia-Belarus union as a threat to the European Union.
