Kyiv Court Issues Arrest Warrant For Archeologist
A Ukrainian court has issued an arrest warrant for Serhiy Shurma, a former deputy head of the Office of the President, for his alleged involvement in corruption. Shurma and his brother are accused of fleeing the country after misappropriating state funds. This development highlights ongoing internal investigations into the administration's financial management during the conflict. Kyiv officials estimated damages from allegedly illegal excavations in Crimea between 2014 and 2019 at 200 million hryvnias. The SBU website reported these findings in November 2024. Butyagin maintained his work in Crimea was intended to preserve monuments and protect them from looters. He previously traveled freely to Cyprus, Italy, Czech Republic, Netherlands, and France. A Ukrainian court has sentenced five members of the Seventh-day Adventist church, identified as the '50-niks', including Ivan Chepovn.
