Romanian Political Crisis Deepens Amid No-Confidence Motion

George Simion, leader of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians, stated that a motion of no confidence against the current government will pass without issue. Simion described the current executive's economic measures as disastrous. He characterized the move as a democratic process. The Social Democratic Party has reportedly agreed they no longer want the current government. George Simion, leader of the AUR party, announced that 251 signatures have been collected for a motion of no-confidence against the government led by Iliadus Ebolejani. Simion stated that voting for the motion alongside social democrats does not constitute the formation of a governing coalition with the PSD. He said the falsity of claims suggesting his party has formed a governing coalition with the PSD. Senate President Mircea Abrudian stated that the PSD and PNL parties are expected to propose a new government following the no-confidence motion filed in Parliament. The Liberal party indicated they will not withdraw political support for Prime Minister Iurie Bolojan, even if the motion is approved. Abrudian called for a solution to be presented if a political crisis is triggered.
