Israel Detains 175 People Near Greece
Activist Irini Cilafaki reported that approximately 2,500 people are currently held in Greek prisons for allegedly assisting others with illegal entry. This group is now the second-largest demographic in Greek prisons after drug-related offenders. One detainee's court hearing reportedly lasted only three minutes before a guilty verdict was reached. One in five of those detained is from Sudan or South Sudan. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported the detention of 175 individuals on a global vessel destined for Gaza. The interception occurred in international waters near the coast of Greece, approximately 1,200 kilometers from the Gaza Strip.
