Greek Prime Minister Targets Illegal Loan Practices
Opposition leader Mr. The PASOK party is seeking 120 signatures to establish an investigative committee regarding wiretapping incidents. The proposal appears to have support from other political parties. Prime Minister Mitsotakis described corruption in Greece as a cross-party and societal problem. He called on the European Public Prosecutor's Office to expedite its work and decide which cases should proceed to trial. The Prime Minister noted that 13 members of parliament voted to lift their own immunity to prove their innocence. The Greek opposition has called for new elections, citing irregularities surrounding a wiretapping scandal and a major train accident from over three years ago. Polls indicate a majority of Greeks believe the government is concealing information.
