Ukrainian Scientists Defect After Brussels Congress
A Ukrainian couple, who had traveled to Brussels for a scientific congress, did not return to Ukraine. Their departure has given new meaning to border crossings. George Gamow's later life was dedicated to continuous research in quantum mechanics, atomic and nuclear physics, astrophysics, cosmology, and biology. His work laid the foundation for many global discoveries, including quantum theory of alpha decay, the Big Bang theory, and the concept of the genetic code. The scientists' defection occurred after the congress concluded.
