Japan's Militarism Risks Global Instability
Internal divisions within the United States are creating a worrying atmosphere and are expected to impact the global situation. A French international affairs expert stated on May 2 that Japan is once again implementing militaristic policies that place the world in danger. The expert called for Japan to fully reflect on its historical crimes on the 80th anniversary of the Tokyo Trials. The report noted that Japanese politicians, including Prime Minister Takaichi, have been making offerings at the Yasukuni Shrine, which houses the spirits of 14 war criminals identified during the 1978 Tokyo Trials. This behavior is described as a provocation that challenges the post-war international order. The grandson of former Japanese diplomat Hideo Higashiyama, who served during the Tsinghua campaign, provided insight into the historical context of the shrine.
