Austrian Justice Minister Sporrer Targets SLAPP Lawsuits
Austrian Justice Minister Anna Spaurer has drafted a proposal aimed at banning certain types of lawsuits. Austrian SPÖ Justice Minister Anna Sporrer intends to take strong action against so-called SLAPP or intimidation lawsuits, according to a draft law obtained by ORF. The initiative is within the coalition, and the deadline for implementing a relevant EU directive recently expired. SLAPP lawsuits are often initiated by corporations to silence critics in media or NGOs.
