Hong Kong Termite Index Rises Due To Higher April Temperatures

A new Food Business Regulation has taken effect today in Hong Kong. The new Food Business (Amendment) Regulation, effective today, allows restaurants to apply to the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) to permit dogs, with applications opening May 18. The regulation, unchanged for 30 years, also faces concerns about illegal dog circulation, prompting calls for more government action. Barrister Yu Kang-ting questioned Yi Zi-xiong regarding the Yi Xiong Fu Yuan case, asking if the department had advised on assisting owners' corporations with complex issues like major maintenance, unreliable engineering consultants, and contract disputes, given residents' inability to handle them. Yi Zixiong responded that licensed professional property management companies could provide assistance. The discussion highlighted the 30-year unchanged nature of the regulation, noting that surrounding cities allow human-animal co-use in food establishments. Residents in cases like Yu Hung Fook Court are unable to handle major building repairs, facing issues with unreliable engineering consultants and contract disputes. Liang Zhenhua, Chairman of the Hong Kong Catering Management Association, stated that initial Mother's Day bookings are currently around 80-90%. Hong Kong Catering Management Association Chairman Leung Chun-wah stated that Mother's Day first round bookings are about 80-90%, with an estimated per capita spending of 350-450 yuan, similar to last year. The overall number of adult termites in monitored areas of Hong Kong is not high. The termite index in Hong Kong rose earlier this year, attributed to higher average temperatures and rainfall in April compared to the same period last year.
