Turkey's Presidency Defends Democratic Legitimacy Against Coup Attempts
Turkey's Presidential Communications Director Burhanettin Duran stated that no initiative outside democratic legitimacy can replace the will of the people, said that Turkey's direction is determined by its citizens. AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik noted that on April 27, 2007, a government resisted a memorandum for the first time, marking the end of the memorandum tradition. Duran used phrases indicating that the memorandum was a dark stain on history and that no coup can replace the nation's will.
