Pro-Government Demonstrations Continue In Iran
Large gatherings are occurring in Tehran and other major Iranian cities, lasting until nearly midnight. Analysts suggest the regime has effectively avoided defeat in the current conflict context. Iranian security forces are appearing nightly in Tehran squares to respond to government calls to send messages to enemies. The BBC reports that the economic impact of the war in Iran continues to deepen. An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson condemned European Union sanctions against Iran on April 27. Charges include owning Starlink devices, speaking with foreign news organizations, or celebrating airstrikes. One musician was arrested following protests in January and has only been able to make a 15-second phone call to his family. NPR is withholding the name and city of a specific young woman detained in Tehran.
