Nigerian Opposition Party Faces Challenges

developing RFI Monde Abuja 15d10d Impact 7
Fourteen Nigerian political formations, including prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Kwankwaso, have accused President Bola Tinubu's administration of undermining multiparty democracy. In a statement known as the 'Ibadan Declaration,' they allege that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is attacking the principles of a multi-party system. The coalition seeks to challenge Tinubu in the upcoming elections. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nigeria is organizing primaries to select its leader by the end of the month. Several senior leaders of the opposition coalition are appearing on the party's website following a Supreme Court decision that invalidated a prior Court of Appeal ruling. The ADC spokesperson urged supporters to remain cautious, stating that a battle has been won but not the war.
