Oman Proposes Saudi Involvement In Maritime Security
Oman has proposed a new mechanism for the security of the Strait of Hormuz that includes participation from Saudi Arabia. Iran has proposed transferring its highly enriched uranium to Russia for processing into fuel. Russia has offered to act as a mediator to resolve the nuclear crisis. Lebanese ceasefire violations by the Israeli army have intensified attacks against southern Lebanon. Li Zixin, an assistant researcher at the China Institute of International Studies, stated the proposal is based on geopolitical realities and mechanism effectiveness. The inclusion of Saudi Arabia is intended to increase the legitimacy and representation of the arrangement regarding Gulf states. This comes amid concerns regarding how US and Israeli military actions against Iran might impact energy market volatility and the UK economy.
