Three Australian Citizens Arrested After Syria Return
The New South Wales state government announced that 13 Australians with links to ISIS are returning from Syria. The group is flying from Doha to Sydney. ASIO head Mike Burgess stated he is not concerned about their return. The travelers include both adults and children. New South Wales Police Commissioner Mel Lanyon is expected to discuss the matter. The report was broadcast on Sydney's 2GB. Twenty-one women and children currently in Syria's Al-Raj camp are seeking to return to Australia. The group holds Australian passports, according to Matt Tinkler of Save the Children. Tinkler stated that the government cannot prevent their return and that the debate should focus on how to facilitate their safe arrival. Four Australian citizens who had traveled to Syria have arrived back in Australia. Three of the four were arrested upon their return and are facing charges or are about to be charged.
