Singapore Launches Resident-Led Urban Renewal Pilot
Grassroots leaders in the Spotless Wood Park neighbourhood near Tanjong Pagar have launched a parents club to support young families. The club aims to connect parents, provide resources, and build a peer support network within the district. Deputy Prime Minister Gan spoke about the initiative during a ministerial community visit to Fung Shan on Sunday. MP Fu Chesiang expressed hope that the pilot program could serve as a model for other states. The Institute of Policy Studies has launched a research pilot project to involve residents in urban renewal processes. Six sites have been designated for renewal, and more than 180 residents have already been evacuated. The process requires meeting budget and regulatory requirements to succeed. MP Fu Chhe Xiang stated that residents will vote on specific proposals subject to existing budget constraints.
