The Malian government has announced the death of Defense Minister Sadio Camara following an attack on his residence. Security forces are investigating the incident which involved gunfire and caused additional casualties. Analysts suggest militant groups are increasingly destabilizing northern regions including Kidal, Timbuktu, and Gao. Jihadist groups and Tuareg rebels from the FLNA attacked the military in at least seven cities. The FLNA has claimed responsibility for the operations and is seeking control of the symbolic city of Kidal.
