Maria Anna Madia Joins Italia Viva Group
Marianna Madia has left the Democratic Party to join the Italia Viva group as an independent in the Chamber of Deputies. The 46-year-old deputy has served in the Chamber since 2008. Madia aims to strengthen the reformist area to support a progressive coalition victory. Madia previously served as the Minister of Public Administration and was the lead candidate for Lazio in the 2008 general elections. The move follows months of speculation regarding her departure from the PD. The transition is described as part of an effort to increase the competitiveness of the progressive coalition. Madia was previously a member of the Democratic Party, Italia Democratica, and Progressista groups. The presidency of Telegruppo confirmed they have accepted the request.
